Imagine this: what was once a rugged landscape shaped by miners' hands has now been transformed into one of the most epic mountain bike parks in the midwest!

Since its grand opening in 2020, Redhead Mountain Bike Park has been a mountain biking destination for all skill levels with 25 miles of trails. And guess what? The fun is just getting started! Hold onto your handlebars because in 2024, we're cranking up the excitement even more with an extra 12 miles of trails for beginners to experts!

COME RIDE REDHEAD IN CHISHOLM, MN

Owned by the City of Chisholm and operated in partnership with Iron Range Off-Road Cyclists (IROC) and Minnesota Discovery Center, Redhead is a public multi-use trail system, free to ride or hike and is open 7 days a week, excluding heavy rain days and seasonal change over. Redhead allows access for ATV off road vehicles via two routes of the Chisholm ATV Trail System; one through the center of Redhead with a slower speed limit and multiple stops and a faster route on the East side. Only a handful of MTB trails intersect the ATV trails.

Paddle the Redhead Pit

Discover Redhead’s reclaimed mine pit from the water! The Minnesota Discovery Center (MDC) offers canoe and kayak rentals during the summer season. Have your own equipment? The MDC Shuttle Service will bring your personal watercraft (kayak/canoe/SUP) to the beach during operating hours (10AM-5PM). The Redhead pit lake is only accessible by the MDC Shuttle, on foot, bicycle, or ATV. Personal vehicles are prohibited on the ATV trail.

Visit the museums

The Minnesota Discovery Center offers insight into the human and natural history of Northeastern Minnesota, housing a museum, entertainment venue, research center and library in a stunning park like setting. The Minnesota Museum of Mining showcases mining history on 13 acres with displays, mining equipment visitors can climb into, and more. Hull Rust Mine View in neighboring Hibbing offers a new visitor center with vast overlooks of active mining. Check out the interpretive path through Bruce Mine Headframe Park & Trailhead in Chisholm.

REnt Bikes from 30West

30West Bike Shop is on site at the Minnesota Discovery Center, across the parking lot from the main Redhead Trailhead. Bike shop hours are Wednesday - Sunday 9AM-6PM. On site rentals, repair, general bike maintenance, and gear available. Rentals include hardtail, full suspension, fat bike, and E-bikes including cruiser, full suspension, and fat bike. Rent for trail riding or road riding on the adjacent paved Mesabi Trail!

Redhead isn’t the only city park in Chisholm - there’s a dozen! A few to experience include: Kiwanis Splash Pad at Memorial Park (next to the Bocce courts, under the water tower), the paved trail and parks on Longyear Lake in the center of Chisholm, Bruce Mine Headframe Park & Trailhead, and the Downtown Pocket Park where you might just catch some live music if the stars align!

Go from trail to table in one minute flat when you jump across HWY 169 into Chisholm! Hotspots recommended by locals include Valentini’s for homemade pasta and killer sandwiches, Jim’s Bar and Grill or Nette’s for burgers, Black Bear Bakery & Cafe for donuts and espresso, Snickers or Choppy’s for Pizza. Chisholm’s classic small-town bars such as Tom & Jerry’s serve craft brews, standard domestics, and offer plenty of choice cocktails. Don’t skip Chisholm!

All Terrain Adventures

Chisholm has an expansive ATV trail system and ATVs are approved for in town street commuting, so riders can go straight from dirt to dining. The Chisholm ATV Trail managed by Northern TRAXX ATV Club is a 57-mile system of trails and road connectors which cross rolling hills, mature forest, and around historic mine pits and tailings piles. The Chisholm Trail connects the Alborn-Pengilly GIA ATV and Taconite Trails with the community of Hibbing on the south end to the communities of Chisholm in the middle and Side Lake to the north.
